During the years 1966 to 1977, a large group of children attended school in Dundee, South Africa. Some arrived after 1966, others left and did not matriculate at DHS. Some attended other primary schools before entering Dundee High School.
Their voices were heard on the sports fields and playgrounds, in the choir and asking intelligent questions in the classrooms.
The hostels were abuzz with students from the farming community, Swaziland and elsewhere.
Friendships were made, some have stood the test of time, others were forgotten as life went on.
That final day....everyone left, followed their dreams, got married, had children and grandchildren....many are now retired...
We need to re-connect. Therefore, we are searching for anyone who was in school with us through the years, to invite them to our 50th reunion in Dundee in 2027, and mini reunions in towns, cities and regions throughout the world..
DHS Memories: The Fire Extinquisher Saga by Stella Smuts
The year was 1974. The Class was Std 7Eb. One day, something happened which caused total chaos .... a few of the guys (no names mentioned) , cheered on by some of the girls (no names mentioned), let off the fire-extingisher. What an ab-so-lute mess!!! White foam everywhere. Our desks were covered, as were books, cases, teacher's things. All we needed was a Christmas tree to add the finishing touches!!! Mrs Nixon (the school inpsector's wife) was our class teacher and she almost had a heart attack. We had no classes the next day as we were sentenced to clean up.. and what a job that was!!! The foam had turned to powder - a vacuum cleaner would have been useful but not many people owned one back then! Mr Kriel said that 7Eb of 1974 was the worst disciplined class he had ever known in his principal career!!
